Driving safely requires a certain amount of skill. The Question that everyone wants to know is, where are the worst drivers in Canada from? It may be surprising, and a bit scary to hear that the worst drivers in our country may be found in Halifax, according to an Allstate Canada Safe Driving Study (2015). The study looked at collision reports in different communities across Canada from 2013-2015. In the study Halifax was tied with the Toronto suburb of Ajax for last place. Halifax had a collision claims frequency of 7.12% (per 100 cars), the highest rate in the study.
Though this information may be troubling, it is important to remember that it is just a study done by a single insurance provider. In addition, there are factors that make driving in Atlantic Canada particularly difficult when compared to other Provinces, weather being a major one. The study provided additional information that is useful for drivers to keep in mind.

What Types of Accidents Occur most often? The two most frequent types of accidents that occur are cars being rear-ended and turning and intersections. The study showed that these types of accidents make up just under half of all collision claims. These accidents usually take place when drivers are distracted or when they fail to consider and account for road conditions.
What is the safest day of the week to drive? The study looked at collision claim frequency by the day of the week. Sunday was determined to be the safest day to drive, with the least amount of collision claims being made on that day. Friday was the day of the week when the most collision claims were made. This can be something to keep in mind in the New Year.
What is the worst month to drive in? December is a very bad month for collisions for obvious reasons, the worsening weather, the overcrowded mall parking lots from the holiday season. However, December is not the worst month for collision claims. The study found that January was the worst month for collision claims. So please be safe going into this new year of 2017. June was the month that had the least amount of collision claims. MacGillivray Injury and Insurance Law would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year of driving!
